Education & Curriculum

At Caledonian Campus, we believe education should be individualised, engaging and meaningful. Our curriculum is designed around the needs, abilities and aspirations of each young person, supporting them to make progress academically while developing the skills, confidence and resilience they need for life beyond school.

We follow Scotland's Curriculum for Excellence, supporting pupils to develop as Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors.

Our pupils have opportunities to learn through academic subjects, practical and vocational courses, wider achievement programmes and experiences that develop skills for life, learning and work.

Learning & Progress

Our approach to teaching and learning is designed to allow pupils to progress at their own pace while receiving the level of support they need.

Learning may take place with the full class, in small groups or on an individual basis, depending on the needs of the pupil and the activity.

We use a range of approaches including projects, experiments, research, design and problem-solving activities. These encourage pupils to become more actively involved in their learning while developing skills, confidence and independence.

Individual Learning Journeys

Each pupil has an individual learning journey that records the activities, experiences and challenges they have worked through during their time at Caledonian Campus.

This provides a positive record of learning and achievement and allows pupils, parents and carers to see the experiences and outcomes achieved throughout the school year.

The learning journey remains with the pupil throughout their time at the school.

Assessing & Tracking Progress

When pupils join Caledonian Campus, they are assessed to establish their current knowledge and understanding, including literacy and numeracy.

Assessment information is used to identify individual learning needs and inform each pupil's Individualised Education Plan (IEP).

Progress is monitored through planned assessments and ongoing observation, enabling staff to identify next steps in learning and ensure that teaching remains appropriate to the individual.

This information also helps parents, carers and other professionals develop a clear understanding of the pupil's progress and achievements.

Reviewing Progress

At the beginning of a placement, staff undertake an initial assessment period to understand the pupil's needs and establish appropriate support and learning priorities.

Progress is reviewed with pupils, parents, carers and relevant professionals, providing opportunities to celebrate achievements, discuss progress and plan future support.

Our aim is to ensure that every young person's learning journey is purposeful, meaningful and focused on their individual potential.
